When Your Body Needs Help, But You Can’t Swallow One More Pill
A girlfriend shared her story with me:
Low thyroid. Hashimoto’s. Always tired. Not a great pill taker. And some supplements? Just make her sick to her stomach.
If you nodded reading that, you’re not alone.
Let’s break it down simply. People with thyroid issues (especially autoimmune ones) tend to run low on a handful of nutrients. These are your non-negotiables:
🔑 What your thyroid needs:
- Vitamin D – for immune and hormone balance
- Vitamin B12 + B Complex – for energy, nerve health, mood
- Iron – for energy and oxygen delivery
- Magnesium – for metabolism, stress, and sleep
- Selenium + Zinc – support thyroid hormone production
- Omega-3s – reduce inflammation
- Iodine – needed for making thyroid hormones (only if not contraindicated by your doctor)
🤢 But what about nausea?
The #1 supplement that tends to cause nausea is iron. (Especially on an empty stomach!)
Here’s what I suggest:
- Split your vitamins up throughout the day (half with breakfast, half with lunch or dinner)
- Always take them with food
- Try B Complex and OmegaGuard first—most tolerate those very well
- If you’re sensitive, don’t start everything at once. Start with the easiest ones.
Your thyroid needs nutrients to function.
Your body needs you to feel well enough to show up—sometimes it starts with rebuilding the basics.
