Don't hide from aging! Instead focus upon the right habits to slow it down.
Such as:
* collagen loss
* sun damage
* dryness
#1 COLLAGEN LOSS
Collagen is the protein that keeps our skin firm and smooth, but as we age, our body produces less of it. While I’m not chasing perfect skin, I do want to maintain a healthy, youthful appearance for as long as possible.
I look for skincare products with ingredients that help ‘firm’ and ‘plump’ the skin, even if they don’t directly replace collagen. Ingredients such as Bakuchial, Retinol and Peptides and devices such as Nuface – all stimulate collagen. I’ve also started taking a collagen supplement that’s rich in amino acids, which helps support my body’s natural collagen production.
#2 SUN DAMAGE
I’ll admit—I wasn’t the type to lie out and sunbathe as a teen, but sun damage doesn’t only come from beach days. Years of watching my ‘BOYZ’ play baseball, walking outside, living in a home filled with windows, and driving with my hands exposed on the steering wheel have all added up to noticeable sun spots.
And it’s not just outdoor sun exposure. With the time I spend running my home-based business, I’m often on my phone or computer for long stretches, handling social media, texting, and keeping in touch. That blue light from screens can also contribute to skin damage over time. This is another reason I’ve made sunscreen a daily habit, even when I’m inside. It’s my go-to defense against both the sun’s rays and blue light
#3 DRYNESS (Especially When Traveling)
Living in a humid place like Florida, I don’t notice dryness too much on a daily basis. But when I travel to drier places, it’s a different story. I always feel the change, especially on my hands. With my upcoming trip to Chicago, I know the cooler, drier air will affect me.
To combat this, I always pack a rich, hydrating moisturizer with hyaluronic acid. It’s lightweight but does a great job of pulling moisture into the skin, keeping it hydrated even in drier environments. I also make sure to give my hands extra attention—they tend to show dryness first. For this, I bring a small jar of sugar scrub to help exfoliate away any dead skin that the dry air brings – keeping me smooth and supple, no matter the climate.
I also make sure to drink plenty of water, which is another key to keeping skin hydrated—especially on flights. Recently I have ‘upped’ my water intake to 100 ounces per day.
Aging may be inevitable, but small, mindful steps can make a real difference.
To these TOP 3 as other ways to lessen the appearance of aging, I would also add:
- regular exercise
- using the right skincare products
- taking the right supplements
- and a peaceful relationship with the Lord Jesus
